POWERED BY PASSION

Hi Friends,
My name is Abraham. I am a pastor, a lecturer in biochemistry and an author. This blog is for us to share ideas on the subject of PASSION - the importance of passion, what it can do for you, and why you must pursue your passion.
I will be posting excerpts from my book 'POWERED BY PASSION' over here and you may read and feel free to comment on it.
Your ideas and comments may be incorporated into later versions of the book. Happy dialogue on passion.

Born After Midnight
For some reason I could not sleep, no matter how hard I tried. It was a cool September night in Year 2001. As usual, I went to bed early. While struggling to sleep, some Bible verses kept running through my mind and I could not shake them off. I was experiencing what some today call ‘brain waves’. However, the Bible calls it ‘inspiration’. The book of Job tells us,
“But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding” Job 32:8. [Emphasis added]

The main thrust of the ideas I was getting was on the word ‘Passion’, and the main scripture knocking on my mind back then was from John chapter two. I spent the next three hours writing these revelations on sheets of paper as I strolled up and down in my room. Later on I used these revelations to preach in church and was amazed at the response, as many were much inspired. In the year 2002, a friend encouraged me to publish the sermon as a book. As I wrote the book, I realized that I was dealing with a very fundamental issue that probably govern all the laws of success and achievement.

I believe this book will be a great help to people from all walks of life, including:
Those who think they have deviated from what they wished for in life.
Those who want to be more careful in making the next move in life.
Those about to choose their educational pathway which will ultimately affect their career options.
Those pursuing programmes that appear to have no bearing on their passion.
Those who have completed school and looking at the way forward.
Those who want to have greater zest in life by reconnecting with their sources of energy – the things that turn on the fire in them.
The book should help readers to discover their passion and get fulfilment in living the life that God has called them to live. It is my prayer that this humble contribution on ‘Passion’ adds to this all-important subject and serves as a stimulant for greater minds to take us deeper.

Defining Passion
“Yes, I have doubted. I have wandered off the path, but I always return. It is intuitive, an intrinsic, built-in sense of direction. I seem always to find my way home”. - Helen Hayes, first lady of the American theatre.

The dictionary defines passion as a powerful emotion, such as love or anger; ardent love; strong sexual desire; lust; the object of such love or desire; boundless enthusiasm and the object of such enthusiasm. It also refers to the sufferings of Jesus after the last supper; including the Crucifixion. In the Greek language, the word for passion is ‘pascho’, meaning to experience a sensation or impression, usually painful - a sensation that literally vexes you. From this, we see that passion is an outward expression of internal sensations, impressions, or motions that literally vex us to the point of pain, causing us to act along the path of their prodding, and in the process, deliver to us joy and fulfilment like none other. It is an experience of an inner reality that vexes us to pain until we manifest its message.

I see passion as an unstoppable drive, which surmounts all odds and always succeeds when given full vent. It is a feeling that keeps running until there is fulfilment. It is something you enjoy doing and which you feel very strongly about. You may also view it as an intense, driving or overmastering conviction that demands action.
Passion is the fire that touches the hearts of youth, driving them in a particular direction. It is the driving force that causes a medical student to leave his studies abroad to become a soccer star, a top-notch radio presenter or a leading painter; it is what causes an architect to become a caterer, and a homemaker to become an all time best-selling author. It is what caused the King of Glory to leave His throne above to die on a cruel cross with a crown of thorns.
